Apostolic Nuncio in Benin, Togo Transferred, to Represent the Holy Father in Costa Rica

Pope Francis has transferred Archbishop Mark Gerard Miles to the Vatican Diplomatic Mission in Costa Rica.

The Papal transfer of Archbishop Miles, who has been serving as Apostolic Nuncio in Benin and Togo was made public on Tuesday, July 8 and published by the Holy See Press Office.

The 57-year-old native of Gibraltar was ordained Priest in September 1996. He started the diplomatic service of the Holy See in July 2003.

The Vatican diplomat holds a licentiate in Theology and Canin Law. He has previously served at the pontifical representations in Ecuador and Hungary as well as in the Section for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State.

Considered fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian, and with a working knowledge of French, Archbishop Miles routinely acted as translator for Pope Francis during his visits to countries around the globe.

He had also served as Holy See Permanent Observer at the Organization of American States (O.A.S.) in 2019 before he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Benin and Togo in February 2021.
