The leadership of the Society of Missionary Childhood, which seeks to help children to discover the missionary spirit across the globe, has lauded officials of the organization in Kenya for keeping children engaged in evangelization initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a letter addressed to Fr. Bonaventure Luchidio, the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Kenya, Sr. Roberta Tremarelli, the Secretary General of the Pontifical Society Missionary Childhood further lauds Bishops in the East African country who she says supported activities of children in their respective Dioceses.

“Dear Father Luchidio, I would like to thank you for all the proposals that you carried out and for involving more and more children in missionary spirituality and activities, especially through the promotion of the charism of the Holy Childhood,” Sr. Tremarelli says in the letter dated Monday, April 19.

She adds, “Kindly express my gratitude to all the Bishops that welcomed the Holy Childhood in their Dioceses.”

In the letter obtained by ACI Africa, the official of the Holy Childhood globally also expresses gratitude to the PMC national coordinator, Sr. Esther Kimani as well as the Diocesan Directors and animators, who she says have remained steadfast in executing their services despite the tough COVID-19 times.

The PMS Kenya officials, the Vatican-based Nuns notes, “have accompanied the children in their faith formation, supported by prayer and collections for the evangelizing mission of the Church.”

“Lockdowns and quarantines cannot stop our mission, which consists in prayer and sharing,” Sr. Tremarelli says in her April 19 letter, and adds, “Even if we are at home, we can engage in the mission.”

Sr. Tremarelli says that Fr. Luchidio and his team at the PMS national office have been open to the creativity of the Holy Spirit in proposing new activities with the support of different media platforms, including zoom, WhatsApp, radio, television and magazine.

PMS Kenya has organized a number of activities that not only brought children in the country together but also linked the children with others on the globe through digital technologies.

Last October, children in Kenya joined children in other countries in a campaign that was initiated by catholic Pontifical organization Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) International to pray for unity peace in the world.

The children in various Kenyan Parishes joined the campaign, “One Million Children Praying the Rosary” through a Facebook live video.

In her April 19 letter, Sr. Tremarelli encourages the Kenyan PMS officials to work towards deepening missionary awareness in the country by bringing all faithful on board.

“The spiritual and material cooperation that you promoted provide good results!” the Secretary General of the Pontifical Society Missionary Childhood says, and adds, “I invite you to continue encouraging the faithful in your country to cultivate a deeper missionary awareness and an appreciation for the universal dimension of our Faith.”
