Diocese of Port Louis to raise Funds to Support Pope’s Visit in Mauritius

The Diocese of Port Louis is expected to organize a special offertory collection in parishes this weekend to raise funds to support preparations ahead of Pope Francis’ visit to Mauritius.

“The Bishop calls on the generosity of the faithful to help the Diocese cover the expenses incurred for renovation works and for the liturgy,” reads a statement on the website of the diocese of Port Louis.

“To meet up with the Vatican's requirements, the Diocese had to undertake important works at the monument to Mary, Queen of Peace (expansion and leveling of the platform, renovation of the sacristy and toilets, layout of the aisles giving access to the monument, etc.)” the Church leadership in Mauritius has stated.

An appropriate sound system for the public events with Pope Francis is among the expenses to be met. 

“Ask your loved ones to participate in this fundraising and give a helping hand to the Church,” the leadership has appealed.

Pope Francis is expected in Mauritius on September 9 where he will preside over Holy Mass at the monument of Mary Queen of Peace.

The Holy Father will then have lunch with the bishops of the Episcopal Conference of the Indian Ocean, visit Father Laval's sanctuary before meeting the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister.

To conclude his journey, the Pontiff will address the authorities, civil society and the diplomatic corps before heading back to Madagascar from where he is expected to jet back to Rome the following day.
