Catholic Diocese in Ghana in “sorrow, pain” Following Death of Diocesan Administrator

The Catholic Diocese of Wa in Ghana has expressed “sorrow and pain” following the passing on of the Diocesan administrator, Fr. Edward Tengan.

In a statement shared with ACI Africa, the Chancellor of Ghanaian Diocese announced with “profound sorrow, pain and a heavy heart,” the death of the Diocesan administrator elected in December 2022.

“I regret, on behalf of the College of Consultors of Wa Diocese, to inform you that our dear brother, Very Rev. Fr. Edward B. Tengan, the Diocesan Administrator, returned to the Heave Fr. Benjamin Diiriter, said in the August 3 statement.

He added, “Please, kindly convey this sorrowful news to all the faithful within your parishes, institutions and communities and solicit their prayers for the peaceful repose of the soul of Very Rev. Fr. Edward B. Tengan.”

Fr. Tengan was meant to oversee the administration of the Diocese until the Holy Father appoints a Diocesan Bishop.

His election was preceded by consultations, with the Holy See directing the College of Consultors to convene the elective meeting.

Prior to his election as Diocesan administrator, Fr. Tengan served in the Pastoral Care Office of Wa Diocese.

Since May 2016, Wa Diocese was under the leadership of Richard Kuuia Cardinal Baawobr. The member of the Society of Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) died in November 2022 at the age of 63. He was among the Catholic Church leaders elevated to Cardinal during the August 27 Consistory.
