Salesians Address Electricity Challenges at 156-bed-capacity Hospital in DR Congo

The Institute of Salesian of Don Bosco (SDB) has addressed electricity challenges at a hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by procuring a new generator.

In a report published Monday, December 18, SDB officials say the old generator at their Afia Don Bosco Hospital in the Archdiocese of Lubumbashi had broken down, “leaving the hospital in a precarious situation.” 

“With the new generator, the hospital will run more effectively and efficiently,” the Salesian officials say, adding that the generator that was purchased with funding from the U.S. development arm of the SDB, Salesian Missions, will provide the hospital with consistent electricity.

In the report, the Medical Director of the 156-bed-capacity hospital, Dr. Christian Mbuya, describes the generator donation as “important for the health and well-being of each patient.”

“Thanks to this electrical supply, it will reduce the risk linked to the lack of power in this health and hospital environment.,” says Dr. Mbuya.

Established in 1988, the Salesian health facility provides medical care for many inhabitants of Lubumbashi and its environs.

The medical facility with specialized services including radiology, pediatrics, an emergency department, general medicine, internal medicine, gynecological and obstetric, dermatology, oncology dentistry, pneumology kinesiotherapy, general surgery, neurosurgery, psychiatry, and ophthalmology received an excellence award for its services to the Congolese people in May 2020.
