Persevere, Depend on God amid Challenges: Christian Leader Encourages Nigerians

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has encouraged the people of God in the West African country to persevere and depend on God amid the challenges they face.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country is battling with insecurity and economic challenges.

Speaking on the sidelines of the National Prayer Day 2024 in Abuja, the President of the entity that includes representatives of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) also told Nigerians to pray regularly.

“We shall survive it, this one too shall soon come to pass but we need to endure a little bit,” Archbishop Daniel Okoh is quoted as saying on Wednesday, February 28.

“I tell Nigerians to continue to depend on God, as they do what is right,” Archbishop Okoh said, adding that the people of God in the country “must try at this time, as much as possible to remain accountable, to remain consistent in prayers, to remain transparent, and to remain persons of integrity.”

The Church leader emphasized the need to keep praying saying, “We know that even at the point where we think that all our abilities have been exhausted and we have come to our wit’s end, that is when our God will come forth in the form of power.”

Archbishop Okoh also urged the government to be thoughtful about the people’s experiences.

“No government will be happy and celebrating when its people are suffering and in hunger. It doesn’t give it a good name,” he said on the sidelines of the event themed “In His Hands.”

At the event, the guest speaker, Prophet Isa El-Buba, urged Nigerians to seek God’s divine intervention for their challenges through prayer saying, “The power to fix a nation comes from above through prayer.”

“The only way our nation can be fixed is by divine intervention. We need the supernatural hand of God to rest on our leaders,” he said and added, “We can see that when leaders are exhausted in terms of wisdom and knowledge, they need a supply of wisdom from above, and when wisdom comes, leadership begins to do what is proper.”

“The message is that we pray and we ask God to release a new dimension of wisdom for our leaders to be able to lead the people right. When the head is alright, the whole body will be alright too,” he said.
