Catholic Men in South Sudanese Archdiocese Cautioned against Violence

The Catholic Bishop of Juba Archdiocese in South Sudan has called on members of the Catholic Men Association (CMA) in his Metropolitan See to “shun violence” especially against women.

Speaking at the launch of CMA at Holy Trinity Parish of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, on June 4, Archbishop Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla said, “I urge all the members of CMA who have taken their oath not to be violent to others when they are doing their work.”

Archbishop Ameyu added, “Even for your spouse, you should shun violence because women are the mothers of the world; without women, men wouldn’t have existed in this universe.”

“CMA members need to show respect at all levels, be it in the family, Church, and the community,” he said. 

The Catholic Archbishop who started his Episcopal Ministry in March 2019 as the Bishop of South Sudan’s Torit Diocese further said, “Catholic Men Association should carry out their duties for Gospel proclamation responsibly and diligently because we are going to be examples for others to follow.” 

The Local Ordinary of South Sudan’s only Metropolitan See called on the CMA members to be attentive to the welfare of Catholic communities by responding to their needs.

“You need to promote spiritual, moral, material welfare, and development of the Catholic community,” he said, and added, “Visit and pray with the sick, support the homeless and under-privileged in the society.”

Archbishop Ameyu said, “The association will have many men to join once you have shown our people that you will be able to do something.”

“You should encourage members to live up to their duties and obligations to the Church,” the 59-year-old Catholic Archbishop said during the June 4 event. 

He called on the CMA members to have an understanding of the Trinity, saying, “You should consider the Holy Trinity when you are going to do your work because it will guide you.”
