The Bishop of Ndola Catholic Diocese in Zambia is calling upon the people of God under his pastoral care to unite in implementing the Diocese’s five-year strategic plan that is set to end in the year 2028.

In his remarks during the launch of the plan on Wednesday, January 17 at the Diocesan Pastoral Conference Centre, Bishop Benjamin Phiri said that the successful implementation of the plan will also require motivation, discipline, and faith from those in his Episcopal See.

“For us to achieve anything having made a plan, having agreed on that plan being of one mind and one purpose having the same objective everyone need to hold hands,” Bishop Phiri said at the event that had the Priests, the Religious and lay faithful in attendance.

He added, “The concerted efforts of so many talented people together, we should be able to achieve whatever we set out to do provided we are united.”

“We should be united in the manner we speak, in the manner we live, in the manner we act so that our action will have a punch behind so that we would be able to say after the work is done this is ours and we have done it all, all of us,” the Zambian Bishop said.

The 64-year-old Bishop who has been at the helm of the Zambian diocese since August 2020 urged the people of God under his pastoral care to embrace self-motivation and discipline to successfully implement the plan.

“Embarking on a journey of achieving the targets that we have set for ourselves, that kind of activity my brothers and sisters requires a lot of motivation because we are going to find difficulties,” he said.

Implementing the plan requires a lot of discipline “because we will need to do things in a disciplined manner to achieve what we want to achieve,” the Local Ordinary of Ndola Diocese said.

At the event that also saw the launch of the Diocese’s safeguarding policy, Bishop Phiri urged the people of God under his pastoral care to be selfless and to be ready to sacrifice to ensure the successful implementation of the plan.

The Bishop emphasized that the successful implementation of the plan “will require that unity of purpose which can only be achieved when grounded and founded on faith.”

In his January 17 remarks, Bishop Phiri also spoke on his prospects for the diocese, saying that he foresees a Diocese that will be independent and self-reliant.

He said, “I would like to see a time when Ndola Diocese will no longer have to go out there to look for aid to do its normal operational activities; a time should come when we will be able to stand on our own.”

“A time should come when we as Ndola Diocese being among the giants of the Dioceses in the country would be setting out to say that now that we have picked ourselves up let us go to that Diocese and help them to pick themselves up because not all Dioceses are privileged,” he added.

Bishop Phiri said that the visions for the Diocese as prospected can only be achieved when all the people in the Diocese follow a certain direction which he said will involve renewing the plans every five years.
