Archbishop Luzizila Kiala of the Catholic Archdiocese of Malanje in Angola has called upon the people of God in his Metropolitan See to speak favourably of the Catholic Church as members, loving her “with pride”.

In his Sunday, April 28 homily at St. Joseph Parish of Malanje Archdiocese, Archbishop Kiala emphasized the need for Catholic to “guard our Church, all out of love, where I love my Church with pride,” and explained the meaning of love.

“To love is to be in solidarity, to unite with others, especially with those who suffer, who need our help,” the Local Ordinary of Malanje who doubles as Chair of National Commission for the Liturgy of the Bishops' Conference of Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe (CEAST) said.

He continued, “To love is to serve our brothers and sisters as Jesus did; to love is to put on the feelings of Jesus Christ, feelings of kindness, feelings of humility.”

Loving involves having the “humility to recognize one's own mistakes, to recognize one's own limits, to have the feeling of mercy, of patience,” the Angolan Catholic Archbishop said.

Archbishop Kiala emphasized, “To love as Christ loved us is the duty of every Christian. It's not because you have to choose, but because you have to love.”

The Catholic Church leader, who started his Episcopal Ministry in August 2013 as Bishop of Angola’s Sumbe Diocese highlighted the important role of the Holy Spirit in being able to live love.

He said, “There is only one way to do this. Open yourself to the action of the Holy Spirit who must pour his love into our hearts.”

“We know that the Christian belong to Godand God's love is in him through his fidelity to practical charity. That's why, brothers and sisters, believing in Jesus means: you love your brothers and sisters in deeds and in truth ... let's practice the works of love,” Archbishop Kiala said.

He further appealed, “Let's all stay with the Word of God; today let it sink deep into our hearts.”

“Children, young adults, let's show this great love for our community, so that this Parish of St. Joseph really grows with everyone united to Christ.”
