The latest ecclesiastical changes in the Southern African nation of Zambia with the erection of a new Metropolitan See of Ndola is “a significant milestone” in the country, members of the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) have said.
In a congratulatory message following the announcement of the erection of the new Catholic Archdiocese in Zambia and the appointment of Bishop Benjamin Phiri as pioneer Local Ordinary on June 18, CCZ members describe the move as an “achievement” worth celebrating.
“The elevation of Ndola to an Archdiocese marks a significant milestone in the ecclesiastical landscape of Zambia, and we celebrate this achievement with joy and gratitude,” CCZ members say in the message shared with ACI Africa on Wednesday, June 19.
They add, “This historic development is a testament to the unwavering dedication and commitment of the Catholic Church to the spiritual and social upliftment of our communities.”
CCZ members laud the choice of Bishop Phiri as pioneer Local Ordinary of the new Metropolitan See, saying, “His exemplary leadership, deep faith, and tireless service have been an inspiration to many.”
