Immediate Former Bishop of DR Congo’s Molegbe Diocese Eulogized as “exceptional, respected, beloved figure”

Tributes are pouring in for Bishop Dominique Bulamatari, the immediate former Local Ordinary of the Catholic Diocese of Molegbe in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who passed on in Kinshasa at 69.

In a statement issued Monday, August 26, Fridolin Cardinal Ambongo Besungu,  Local Ordinary of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kinshasa, announces “with deep sorrow, the unexpected death” of Bishop Bulamatari, who resigned as Local Ordinary of Molegbe in August 2023.

Cardinal Ambongo extends his “heartfelt condolences to Bishop José Likolo of Lisala Diocese and Apostolic Administrator of Molegbe, to the Clergy, to the People of God, and to the biological family of Bishop Bulamatari.”

The Congolese Cardinal calls upon the people of God to pray for the repose of the soul of the late Catholic Bishop.

Born in June 1955 in the Archdiocese of Kinshasa, the late Bishop was ordained a Priest of the same Archdiocese in April 1980 after completing his philosophical and theological studies.

In October 1999, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Kinshasa Archdiocese and assigned the Titular See of Elephantaria in Mauretania. He was ordained Bishop in January 2000.

Following his passing on, he as been eulogized through social media posts. 

“Bishop Bulamatari was a respected and beloved figure in the local Church. His sudden departure leaves a significant void in the Congolese Catholic community, which mourns the loss of a dedicated and cherished pastor,” The Voice Of Congo says in a tweet.

For Jean Baptiste Mbalu, the late Bishop Bulamatari  was a “man of peace and loved by all.”

“Rest in peace my brother, friend, and classmate at Institut Notre Dame. You were an exceptional Priest, may God console us,”Jean Baptiste Mbalu adds.

On his part, Luc-Michel Holenn Ndeer says, “For many years he was our Parish Priest, spiritual director, and confessor at Notre-Dame de la Sagesse parish in Kinshasa. A great loss for the Church.”

“Good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Master. Rest in peace Bishop Bulamatari,” says Judith Nsimbu.
