The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) in Malawi has joined the country’s coalition of Public Affairs Committee (PAC), the Gender Justice Unit, and the Meeting Hub (mHub) in a push to promote credible, free and fair 2025 polls of the south-east African country.
Dubbed Chisankho Watch, the coalition, according to its representatives, is mandated to observe the planned September 2025 elections with the primary purpose of enhancing transparency, inclusivity, and credibility.
In his remarks at the launch at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel in Malawi, the CCJP National Coordinator said the Coalition seeks to promote meaningful citizen participation by engaging diverse stakeholders including marginalized groups in elections observation and civic education efforts.
“Among other things, Chisankho Watch will conduct observation of the fresh voter registration process which is about to begin, hold advocacy engagements with key stakeholders like MEC, process and verify results of the 2025 elections for transparency, and observe the pre-and post-elections environment in Malawi,” Boniface Chibwana said in a Sunday, October 20 report.
He added, “The coalition envisages credible, inclusive, and transparent elections for a peaceful and democratic Malawi.”
