The staff of Rádio Pax of the Catholic Archdiocese of Beira in Mozambique have been called upon to accept their communication apostolate as a pastoral calling.

Bishop António Manuel Bogaio Constantino, who made the call during the Thanksgiving Mass marking the 70th anniversary of the Catholic Radio of Beira Archdiocese on October 27 also cautioned the Catholic communicators at the radio station against cynicism.

The Auxiliary Bishop of Beira Archdiocese called for responsible reporting that goes beyond mere information dissemination to being communicators, who are “a voice of the Church, a bridge connecting the community to the Word of God.”

“Cynics are not fit to be journalists. Your work is not only technical and informative; it is, above all, also pastoral,” the Mozambican member of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus (MCCJ) said during the October 27 event.

He encouraged the staff at the Catholic radio station to face challenges with courage, recognizing that their dedication to truth is a testament to their commitment to their apostolate of informing, educating, and inspiring hope.

Bishop Bogaio lauded Rádio Pax as an important voice of hope in Mozambique, promoting Christian values and fostering peace and unity among its listeners.

He noted that in addition to delivering news, Rádio Pax offers education and spiritual programs, playing a fundamental role in the spiritual and social life of the Mozambican community.

The 55-year-old Catholic Church leader, who has been Auxiliary Bishop since his Episcopal Consecration in February 2023 called upon the staff of Rádio Pax to be conscious of the language they use, safeguarding the Catholic identity and distinguishing themselves from commercial stations.

“Your work should reflect the mission of a Catholic station, resonating with faith, dignity, and a commitment to truth,” he said.

Reflecting on the diversity of talents at the Catholic radio station, Bishop Bogaio encouraged the staff to realize their individual value to the station, as they play a vitally important role in promoting faith, hope, and love.

“As we celebrate 70 years of Rádio Pax, we are reminded of the transformative power each of you brings to this mission,” he said, and recognized the collaboration of the staff, each bringing to the station particular talents, which he likened to a “vibrant tapestry of faith and hope.”

Bishop Bogaio invited the Rádio Pax staff to view the 70th anniversary as a moment of renewal, encouraging them to continue serving as “beacons of peace and life” for their listeners.

“May Rádio Pax continue to be a channel of the Holy Spirit, bringing peace and life to those who listen,” the Mozambican Comboni Bishop implored.
