Radio Maria South Sudan is set to be a religious education forum for the people of God and a source of hope in the East-Central African nation, the Local Ordinary of the country’s Catholic Archdiocese of Juba, where the Marian radio has been established has said.
In his speech during the inauguration of the Marian Radio that is part of the Italy-based World Family of Radio Maria (WFRM), Stephen Ameyu Martin Cardinal Mulla hailed the initiative as “a significant milestone” in the Church’s mission, uniting the people of God and extending spiritual support to those isolated by age, illness, or geographic barriers.
“The establishment of Radio Maria serves as a beacon of hope, providing a platform for religious education, spiritual growth, and the promotion of peace and reconciliation in a region that has faced numerous challenges,” Cardinal Ameyu said in his November 9 speech.
He added, “The opening of Radio Maria in Juba, South Sudan, marks a significant milestone in the mission of the Church to spread the message of the Gospel and foster community among the faithful. This initiative aligns with the teachings of the Catholic Church regarding the vital role of media in evangelization and spiritual nourishment.”
Making reference to the teachings of St. John Paul II and Vatican II’s Communio et Progressio, Cardinal Ameyu affirmed that media is essential for evangelization.
