The upcoming Catholic Church’s 2025 Jubilee Year provides an opportunity for the people of God in Gabon to practice reconciliation and strive for conversion.
In a statement issued at the end of their November 12-14 Plenary Assembly, members of the Episcopal Conference of Gabon (CEG) underscore the importance of the yearlong celebration, which is to officially begin on Christmas eve, on December 24 with the opening of the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
“The Jubilee is a favorable time for reconciliation and conversion,” Catholic Bishops in the country along the Atlantic coast of Central Africa say in the Friday, November 15 statement.
They add, “During this Holy Year, the faithful are invited to be tangible signs of hope to their brothers and sisters through the Sacrament of Confession, acts of corporal and spiritual mercy, pilgrimages, and by receiving indulgences, which reflect God's mercy surpassing human justice.”
On January 21, Pope Francis announced the start of a Year of Prayer in preparation for the Catholic Church’s 2025 Jubilee Year, the second in his Pontificate after the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy in 2015.
