Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Paolo Borgia Apostolic Nuncio to Ivory Coast with residence in Abidjan, the second appointment he is making this year after Archbishop Anté Jozić failed to take up his functions as a result of an accident.
The government of Ivory Coast confirmed the appointment of Archbishop Borgia in a communique at the end of their cabinet meeting of Wednesday September 25.
Recently elevated to the rank of Apostolic Nuncio and Titular Archbishop of Milazzo (Italy), the Archbishop had been serving as Assessor for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State.
The 53-year-old Prelate was born in Manfredonia (Italy) and was ordained priest in April 1999 having been incardinated in the Archdiocese of Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo, Southern Italy.
He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on in December 2001. He has served in the Pontifical Representations in the Central African Republic, Mexico, Israel and Lebanon.
