Tombura-Yambio, 08 October, 2020 / 8:13 pm (ACI Africa).
South Sudan’s Tombura-Yambio Diocese will on the occasion of this year’s celebration of World Mission Sunday release the document of its first Synod, the diocese’s Prelate has said, disclosing the theme of the document on local media.
“The celebration of the Mission Sunday in our diocese comes under the celebration of our first Diocesan Synod where we will be handing out the final document of our own Synod,” Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala of told Anisa Radio of Tombura-Yambio Diocese Thursday, October 8.
In his address ahead of the October 18 event, Bishop Hiiboro said the theme of the Synod would be, “We are a family of God’s people, a participatory servant Church.”
He explained, “In a journey of a hundred years, we have sat down to see how this local Church is truly grounded in its faith and in the mission that it has given to it and to go out as individual missionaries united in Christ to bring the one message of Salvation to ourselves, families, neighbours, communities, entire diocese and to our nation and the world.”
Referring to the essence of Mission Sunday happening on the second last Sunday of October, the South Sudanese Bishop said, “We celebrate the Mission Sunday at the invitation of the Lord himself; God created the world, created the people in His image and He commanded them in the book of Genesis Chapter one verse 26, he says, ‘we created human beings in our own image’.”
