From Madrid to Abidjan, Sant'Egidio to Deliver Peace Message to Ivory Coast

“Our expectation is to see a massive participation and above all see more Ivorians take upon themselves to talk about peace and engage themselves for peace,” Krekoum said.

The first two days will be devoted to a series of round table discussions and deliberations on various themes. The last day will be reserved for an interreligious prayer. 

There will also be a component of initiatives in contact with the populations in certain districts of the city with film screenings followed by exchanges on the general theme of peace.

The interfaith meeting for peace in Ivory Coast and in the world, which is an initiative of the Sant'egidio Community is expected to conclude on October 6, 2019, with an interreligious prayer session with leaders followed by a march for peace.

The Community of Sant'Egidio is a lay Catholic association dedicated to social service, founded in 1968 under the leadership of Andrea Riccardi.

Over the years, the community has earned a good reputation in facilitating peace negotiations, addressing the AIDS epidemic in Africa, and in its opposition to capital punishment, taking an ecumenical approach in its work.

Present in 29 African countries, Sant'Egidio as a network of small communities of fraternal life is present in some 73 countries across the globe.
