Pope Francis has appointed his representative in Benin, Archbishop Mark Gerard Miles, as his representative in the neighboring West African nation of Togo.

The appointment of Archbishop Miles was announced Tuesday, March 2 and published by the Holy See Press Office.

The Lome-based Nunciature has been vacant since June 2020 when the Holy Father transferred Archbishop Brian Udaigwe to Sri Lanka.

Archbishop Miles’ appointment as the Apostolic Nuncio in Togo comes three weeks after he was appointed in the same capacity in the West African nation of Benin.

Born in Great Britain in May 1967, Archbishop Miles was ordained a Priest of the country’s Gibraltar Diocese in September 1996.
