The leadership of Kenya’s Catholic Diocese of Eldoret has launched the First Diocesan Synod bringing together members of the Clergy, women and men Religious, and Laity to address pastoral initiatives. development projects, spiritual guidance and cohesion in the Diocese.
During the launching celebration aired on Capuchin TV and live streamed on YouTube Friday, June 11, members of the Kenyan Diocese who spoke highlighted the historical nature of the event noting that since the Diocese was established in 1959, a Diocesan Synod has never been convened.
I have convened this special assembly to address pertinent issues in the midst of our people,” Bishop Dominic Kimengich said, and added making reference to the Code of Canon Law (Can. 460), “The Bishop has the power to convene a Synod Assembly every time they feel that there are issues to be discussed at the Diocesan level.”
Bishop Kimengich said that in the process of convening the Synod, he consulted widely with pastoral agents in the Diocese, including members of the Clergy, women and men Religious and the lay faithful.
Delegates of the Synod will be addressing a variety of topics, the Kenyan Bishop said, highlighting the formation of future Priests and additional initiatives to foster formal education in the territory covered by the Diocese among the issues to be discussed.
