Boma, 03 July, 2021 / 7:20 pm (ACI Africa).
The Archbishop of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo has invited the new Bishop of Boma Diocese to build his episcopal ministry around the practice of unconditional love, embracing all the people of God under his pastoral care “without distinction.”
“Be truly a loving father to all your faithful without distinction. Encourage, in their faith, all Priests, consecrated persons, seminarians or young people in formation, lay men and women, young people and adults,” Fridolin Cardinal Ambongo told Msgr. José-Claude Mbimbi Mbamba ahead of his episcopal ordination Sunday, June 27.
In his homily during Holy Mass at the courtyard of Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral of Boma Diocese, Cardinal Ambongo added that the love he is recommending for the new Bishop is a “fatherly love”, a love "that encourages and corrects when there are weaknesses.”
“May your fatherly love stimulate them to live in unity and fraternity, to face together the challenges and pastoral initiatives of your Diocese of Boma,” the Congolese Cardinal who presided over the Eucharistic celebration and episcopal ordination said.
He urged the new Bishop to always bear in mind the words of St. Paul in his letter to Peter saying, “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.”
