Juba, 12 November, 2021 / 6:46 pm (ACI Africa).
The African branch of the International Catholic activist organization, CitizenGo Africa, is calling on the President and Speaker of South Sudan to recall a lawmaker who is representing the country at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) from his post because of promoting laws that legalize abortion and the sexualization of children in Eastern Africa.
Hon. Kennedy Mukulia is sponsoring the Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) Bill of 2017 at EALA, the legislative wing of the six-member nation East African Community (EAC). The six nations include Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan.
In an online petition addressed to President Salva Kiir and South Sudan’s Parliament, CitizenGo Africa officials say Hon. Mukulia has ignored South Sudan’s law, which holds abortion as illegal and punishable by demanding for its legalization at the regional level.
“We demand that the greedy member of parliament who is working and funded closely by abortionists be removed from office immediately as he is pushing for illegalities,” the Catholic activists say in their Friday, November 12 statement.
They add that Hon. Mukulia who, in 2017, was elected to represent the South Sudanese people and make good laws that would benefit the East African block “has been doing the opposite.”
