The celebration of the Jubilees of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (Propaganda Fide), Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, and the birth of Blessed Father Paolo Manna, founder of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU), is a time of thanksgiving and reflection, the Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) has said.
This year, the Church across the world is marking the 400th anniversary of the foundation of Propaganda Fide, the 200th anniversary of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Blessed Father Manna, founder of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU).
Addressing members of the press on Monday, January 31 ahead of the launch of the jubilees in Malawi, Fr. Henry Saindi said, “These anniversaries are a moment of thanksgiving to God for the gifts of these institutions and persons behind them.”
Fr. Saindi added that the anniversaries present the faithful in the country with “an opportunity to reflect about the past missionary activities that have been undertaken since the Catholic faith came to Malawi.”
The Secretary General of ECM further said that the commemorations offer the people of God a chance to plan for the future of the Church in their country.
