Nairobi, 07 March, 2022 / 10:01 pm (ACI Africa).
Officials of CitizenGo Africa, the African branch of the International Catholic entity of social activists, have expressed their “disbelief” at the alleged inclusion of abortion, contraceptives and the sexualization of children as part of “solutions to climate change” proposed for the 2022 United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66).
CSW66 is expected to take place at the UN Women Headquarters New York, from March 14 to 25 under the theme, “Climate Change, Environmental Disaster Reduction: Gender Equality at the Center of Solutions.”
“We have observed with disbelief the inclusion of abortion, sexualization of children, contraception for young girls and push for LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) as solutions to climate change across the globe,” CitizenGo Africa officials say in an online petition launched last week.
According to CitizenGo Africa officials, CSW66’s negotiation document, the Zero Draft of the Agreed Conclusions, references conclusions that were not formally adopted as binding commitments from the Beijing Declaration, the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), and other summits suggest that abortion, sexualization of children, gender ideology, and the use of contraceptives, are a solution to climate change.
They highlight paragraph 15 of the Zero Draft as one that recommends feminist groups and youth-led organizations steer the discussion towards achieving “equal rights”.
