Meru, 08 November, 2022 / 9:30 pm (ACI Africa).
The Clergy and Laity of the Catholic Diocese of Meru in Kenya who spoke to ACI Africa on the sidelines of the November 5 beatification of Venerable Servant of God Maria Carola Cecchin hailed the celebration as a boost to their Christian faith.
The beatification of the member of the Sisters of St. Joseph Cottolengo, (Cottolengo Sisters) is the second such celebration on the Kenyan soil, after that of Sr. Irene Stefani (Nyaatha) in May 2015.
In an interview with ACI Africa on November 5, Fr. Jeremy Gitonga, a member of the Clergy of Meru Diocese, said the beatification of the Italian-born Nun “has contributed to the growth of faith in Meru Diocese because people have come from far places to witness the event.”
“By people coming from far places to witness, it also makes the church grow, because as they leave this place, they would want to imitate the faith of this role model,” Fr. Gitonga told ACI Africa at the end of the Eucharistic celebration that was held at Kinoru Stadium in Kenya’s Catholic Diocese of Meru.
Blessed Carola’s life of faith, charity, and self-giving in the care for the poor that contributed to her beatification should inspire a spirit of transformation among the people of God, Fr. Gitonga said.
