“It is going to wreck our society”: Catholic Bishop on Same-sex Union Advocacy in Kenya

“Beware, my sons and daughters; it is satanic. Open your eyes and say no. Defend and be proud of your gender and give glory to God for your gender. Let no man or woman persuade you otherwise to go against the will of God,” said the Kenyan Bishop who has been at the helm of Ngong Diocese since his Episcopal ordination in April 2012. 

He told students that embracing prayer will strengthen their faith and enable them to shun vices that might subject them to despair and hopelessness.

The Bishop’s remark comes days after religious leaders in Kenya decried the “swelling spread and support for a new regime of rights” that is pushing for same-sex relations in Africa in general and in Kenya in particular. 

“The swelling spread and support for a new regime of rights sweeping across the African continent and in Kenya, turning respectable traditions and morals on their heads is a concern to us,” members of the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) said in a statement shared with ACI Africa on February 8. 

The faith leaders representing Christian, Hindu, Muslim, and African Traditional religions in Kenya said that the new regime of rights is being blown into Kenya “by winds from the West, and planting seeds of destruction against the natural order of human relations and intimacy.”
