The first Vice President of the Symposium of Episcopal Conference of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) is among seven members of the newly established Preparatory Commission to facilitate the realization of the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops.

Commonly known as the Synod on Synodality, the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops is the Synod of Catholic Bishops that the Vatican announced in March 2020 and later extended to October 2024, to be realized under the theme, "For a synodal Church: communion, participation and mission".

Earlier, in 2018, the International Theological Commission defined Synodality as “the action of the Spirit in the communion of the Body of Christ and in the missionary journey of the People of God.”

The process that began with consultations at the level of Dioceses is currently guided by The Document for the Continental Stage (DCS) at the continental phase, expected to last through March 2023.
