Ondo, 01 June, 2023 / 9:50 pm (ACI Africa).
The Catholic Diocese of Ondo in Nigeria has unveiled a weeklong program, to honor those victims of last year’s Pentecost Sunday massacre.
The 5 June 2022 attack on St. Francis Xavier Owo Catholic Parish of Ondo Diocese involved gunmen who fired at the worshippers and detonated explosives, killing at least 50 worshippers including children.
In a circular shared with ACI Africa, Wednesday, May 31, the Diocesan Director of Social Communications, Fr. Ikwu Augustine Ikwu, says the June 5-10 events are "in memory of those who lost their lives and thanksgiving for those who escaped death."
“The week features the opening of two memorial parks built by the Ondo State Government and Catholic Diocese of Ondo in honor of the deceased, candlelight procession, Mass of the dedication of the church and consecration of the altar and a memorial Mass to round up the events,” says Fr. Ikwu.
He adds that there will be an interdenominational service and the opening of the memorial park built by the Ondo State Government on Monday, June 5.
