Kinshasa, 08 July, 2023 / 9:12 pm (ACI Africa).
The Cardinal in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is calling on the people of God in the Central African nation to join hands and facilitate the realization of a “beautiful” country, that goes beyond its negative history.
In his message on the occasion of 63rd independence anniversary of DRC shared with ACI Africa on Tuesday, July 4, Fridolin Cardinal Ambongo says the Congolese people marked the June 30 commemoration of the country’s accession to sovereignty “in somberness”.
"Let us, work towards the emergence of a Congo more beautiful than before," the Archbishop of DRC’s Kinshasa Archdiocese who doubles as the President of the Symposium of Episcopal Conference of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) says.
He adds, “I urge the sons and daughters of this beautiful country to stand hand in hand to face together the challenges of national unity and cohesion, the challenges of sustainable peace and development, and the challenge of safeguarding our national borders, the object of so much covetousness.”
The Eastern part of DRC has been experiencing violence for years, with the World Food Programme (WFP) reporting that 6.2 million people have fled their homes because of the crisis.
