Kampala, 21 July, 2023 / 8:54 pm (ACI Africa).
At his Requiem Mass, members of the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) have remembered the late Archbishop Paul Bakyenga, who passed away on Tuesday, July 18 at the age of 79 for delivering touching homilies.
In the message that the UEC Chairman, Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese read out during the Friday, July 21 celebration, Catholic Bishops in the East African nation recalled the late Archbishop as having been “a very sociable man”.
“His moving homilies have touched many hearts of people in this country,” Bishop Zziwa said during the Holy Mass at St. Mary's Lubaga Cathedral of Kampala Archdiocese.
The late Catholic Archbishop, the UEC Chairman continued, “will be remembered for his strong sense of humor, cheerfulness, and strong interpersonal relationships. He related well with not only Catholics but also people of other denominations.”
“He had love for this flock the Lord entrusted to him; he had love for the universal Church which he served fervently in many capacities,” Bishop Zziwa said about the first Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese who was at the helm of Ugandan Metropolitan See from November 1991 until April 2020 when he retired.
