Catholic Bishops in Togo are organizing a “triduum prayer” for peace in Niger following a July 26 military coup that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum from power.
The move by the Church in Togo is a response to an appeal from members of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa (RECOWA) to the faithful to ask God to save Niger “from chaos, anarchy and war.”
In a Monday, August 7 statement, members of the Episcopal Conference of Togo (CET) said the spiritual exercise that started Tuesday, August 8 is taking place in all Parishes in the country.
“The Episcopal Conference of Togo (CET) is hereby requesting the organization of a triduum of prayers in all the parishes of all the dioceses on 8, 9 and 10 August 2023,” CET members said in their statement.
They noted that the spiritual exercise “will consist of one hour of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, presided over by the parish priests for this intention, at the appropriate time of each day according to the parishes.”
