Buea, 08 September, 2023 / 8:55 pm (ACI Africa).
The Catholic Bishop of Buea Diocese in Cameroon has described as “inadmissible” the killing of innocent civilians following an attack in the neighborhood of St. Andrew's Muea Parish premises of his Episcopal See.
On September 7, suspected Separatists fighters reportedly stopped cars, shot at passengers and set vehicles ablaze killing at least four persons, according to Reuters.
In a statement shared with ACI Africa Friday, September 8, Bishop Michael Miabesue Bibi says, “The early hours of Thursday, September 7, 2023 witnessed an unfortunate situation around St. Andrew's Parish; a Parish under the Muea Deanery of the Diocese of Buea.”
Bishop Bibi adds, saying “Information reaching us indicates that at about 6am immediately after the church bell was rung, there was intense gun fire by unknown gunmen around the church premises and the presbytery and this disrupted the celebration of morning mass at the intended time.”
The Cameroonian Catholic Bishop continues, “This unfortunate incident enacted by unknown armed men, led to the brutal killing of about four persons, the burning of some vehicles, and destruction of property. The terrifying state of affairs brought to a halt the activities of Muea and its environs.”
