Bishop Belmiro Cuica Chissengueti of Angola’s Cabinda Diocese has urged members of the Angolan National Scouting Movement to be “firm and courageous”, and to lead others to faith in God.
Speaking at the first meeting of Catholic Scout Assistants and Leaders on September 16, Bishop Chissengueti linked being a scout and the practice of faith, saying, “The DNA of scouting is faith.”
“Take away faith and scouting disappears. It may remain as a reminder of a past or as an identity of a path that was once embarked upon, but without the involvement of faith, all scouting pedagogy will fall to the ground and it will no longer represent a means of education and growth for young people, but more of a social force that is there to do another activity,” he explained.
The Angolan member of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit under the protection of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CSSp.), also known as the Spiritans or Holy Ghost Fathers appealed, “My brothers, we have to be firm and courageous in leading the way.”
He further said, “If your brothers and sisters don't imitate your scouting path, it's because you are not doing it right.”
