The leadership of the Inter-Regional Meeting of the Bishops of Southern Africa (IMBISA) bringing together representatives of Catholic Bishops from nine countries of Southern Africa has expressed the commitment to fostering an inclusive regional association.
In a statement issued at the end of the IMBISA September 20-21 Standing Committee meeting, representatives of the Catholic Bishops from Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, São Tomé and Príncipe, South Africa and Zimbabwe say that commitment is inspired by the theme of the ongoing preparations for the Synod on Synodality.
“Inspired by the synodal process, which places a strong emphasis on active participation, discernment, and consensus-building, our commitment to the mission of IMBISA remains unwavering,” IMBISA Standing Committee members say.
They add, “We recognize the importance of diverse voices and strive for a more inclusive and representative region.”
They recall the main content of their two-day meeting, during which they say that they “recognize the need for continuous reflection and adaptation as we navigate a rapidly evolving world.”
