Torit, 10 November, 2023 / 3:37 pm (ACI Africa).
South Sudanese Bishop Paride Taban who died at the age of 87 on the Solemnity of All Saints has been laid to rest in the Diocese of Torit, with mourners eulogizing the award-winning prelate as “a teacher, a wise man and a light” for many.
In his homily at the Friday, November 10 burial Mass of Bishop Paride, Stephen Cardinal Ameyu Martin Mulla of South Sudan’s Catholic Archdiocese of Juba said the late Bishop touched many people in his lifetime.
“Bishop Paride has been, in many ways, a teacher to each one of us,” the South Sudanese Cardinal told mourners who gathered at Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Torit.
“Bishop Paride humbled himself in many circumstances of very sad situations. He would have easily abandoned the Diocese of Torit and escaped, but he didn’t. He chose to stay and was always there to assist his people in good times and bad times,” the Cardinal said.
He added, “We pray that God will bring his gentle soul into heaven and that God may console us and give our Priests the purpose of living priesthood. May God give the faithful of this Diocese a sense of purpose in their lives as well.”
