The 10 newly ordained Priests in Angola’s Luanda Archdiocese have been urged to foster the healing ministry, bringing hope after the example of Jesus Christ to the people of God under their pastoral care.

In his homily during the Priestly ordination celebration at St. John Paul II Talatona Parish of Luanda Archdiocese, Archbishop Filomeno do Nascimento Vieira Dias told the 10 Deacons he was about to ordain Priest, “You will be immaculate to the extent that thanks to love you commit yourselves to healing the wounds of your neighbor.”

“You will become what he has always dreamed for you, your ministry will not be a sad reminder of what you could be if you had another option, but the living hope of what you can be in God or in the option he proposes to you,” Archbishop Dias said during the December 10 celebration.

He underscored the need to model their ministry after the person of Jesus Christ, saying, “You are called to make new men and women new to the faith, to make Jesus be born or reborn in the lives of those who cross the path of your ministry.”

In modeling their ministry after the example of Jesus Christ, the Angola Catholic Archbishop told the 10 Deacons he was to ordain Priest, “you will be shining lights that break through the nights of difficulties, the absence of life and the loss of hope.”

He also urged the Deacons to be ordained Priests to look up to Mother Mary in their Priestly ministry. The Archbishop said, “If you allow God to work in you like Mary, you will become what he has always dreamed of for you.”

“Let us walk forward with courage. Today nothing is impossible for God. God's action has no limits; it only needs the acceptance of those who listen,” Archbishop Dias further said.

He added, “Let us not fear; let us enter into this mystery; let us immerse ourselves in this mystery; let us trust in the Lord as Mary our mother did.”

Those ordained Priests during the December 10 celebration included Deacons lávio Natal, Aníbal Maquina, George Sony, Nelson Kutelo, Rafael Ventura, Rosário Manuel, Maurício Cabeto, José Inácio, Ventura Gamboa and Kiaguembeni António, Archbishop Dias.

They were also urged to renew their commitment to the theme of the Synod on Synodality: communion, participation and mission.
