The Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia (CBCE) has been appointed Coadjutor Bishop for the Eparchy of Emdeber in the Horn of Africa nation.
Pope Francis’ appointment of Mons. Teshome Fikre Woldetensae was made public on Saturday, December 16 by the Holy See Press Office and confirmed by members of CBCE on the same day.
Born in June 1972 in Guraghe, Mons. Fikre was ordained a Priest for the Eparchy of Emdeber in January 1998.
As a Priest, he has served in various capacities, including Parish Priest of Attat; Secretary General of the Catholic Secretariat of Emdeber for a period of 10 years; and national pastoral coordinator (from 2017).
The holder of a doctorate in Oriental Canon Law, who is familiar with Ge’ez liturgical language has been serving as Secretary General of CBCE since 2019.
