The U.S.-based Papal Foundation announced on Friday the distribution of nearly $15 million in grants, scholarships, and charitable aid.
The Papal Foundation, a U.S.-based organization that provides funding for Catholic projects around the world, is in Rome this week for its annual pilgrimage and meeting with Pope Francis.
The pope said that the foundation brings ‘love, hope, and mercy’ to those it supports.
The Papal Foundation awarded nearly $800,000 in scholarships to 96 priests, brothers, sisters, and lay faithful as part of the Saint John Paul II Scholarship Program.
The Papal Foundation announced April 28 they will be distributing $9.2 million in grants to dioceses in 64 countries in the coming year.
McCarrick made the intervention in December 2017, after objections were raised to the Vatican’s request of $25 million from the Papal Foundation, for a bankrupt Italian hospital, the Istituto Dermopatico dell’Immacolata (IDI).
Cardinal Angelo Becciu and Cardinal Giuseppe Versaldi have been key players in a complicated series of financial transactions to finance the Vatican Secretariat of State’s 2015 acquisition of the hospital.
