Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has called upon the new Auxiliary Bishop of Maputo Archdiocese in Mozambique to exercise his Episcopal Ministry in humility, striving to “resist temptations”.
In his homily during the January 28 Episcopal Ordination of Mons. Osório Citora Afonso, Cardinal Tagle said, “Dear Bishop Osório, today you are the center of attention and homage. Everyone will ask to take a picture with you.”
“Be humble; focus on the mission that God is entrusting to you; don't follow the demons who will offer you attractive things, but who will ultimately destroy your ministry and your authority,” he said during the event that was held at Ferroviário sports Complex in Mozambique's Nacala Diocese.
The Pro-Prefect of the Vatican Dicastery for Evangelization added, “Do not be ashamed to bear witness to Our Lord, but participate in suffering for the Gospel, in the Power of God.”
“Dear Bishop Osório, you have chosen a beautiful episcopal motto taken from Psalm 119, ‘Your words are a lamp to my feet and a light to my path’. This motto expresses your faith, your prayer, your desire and your pastoral plan,” Cardinal Tagle said.
