Mombasa, 26 February, 2024 / 5:26 pm (ACI Africa).
The Archbishop of Kenya’s Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa has urged newly Ordained Priests of his Metropolitan See to “discipline all their senses” and to seek to be pure as they serve the people of God.
In his homily during the Archdiocesan February 24 pilgrimage and Priestly ordinations, Archbishop Martin Kivuva Musonde reminded Deacon Moses Otieno and Deacon Saul Mdali, who he was about to ordain that Priesthood is “a cross with so many challenges” and cautioned them against embracing “worldly pleasures.”
“My sons… seek to be pure, because in you, a sacrifice will be offered without the shedding of blood,” Archbishop Kivuva said, and added, “Strive to discipline all your senses by stopping all your infirmities and receiving new life.”
“The people of this world want us to have worldly lives,” the Catholic Archbishop, who also serves as the Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) said, and added, “The church cautions those of us in celibacy against being misled by the world. We therefore need prayers.”
He pledged the support of the Church to the two Deacons he was about to ordain Priests, saying, “We must support and nurture your vocation. We are praying for you, not for your journey to be easy, but for you to find the muscle to carry the big responsibility of Priesthood especially in the contemporary world that is full of temptations.”
