A group of 30 U.S.-based members of the Catholic Women Association (CWA) hailing from the Central African nation of Cameroon have lauded the 10th National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis as a memorable event that gives them hope to even future participation.

Speaking to EWTN News correspondent to the July 17-21 event, Victoria Arruda, one of the members, Florence Njoyi, said, “It is a wonderful event and we are ready to participate. We hope that it grows and grows, and we will be there to put our support to the event in future.”

Florence said participating in the spiritual event offers an opportunity for Eucharistic revival and that this is very special for the group. She said, “We are Catholic women baptized in the Catholic Church; it's part of our hope and it's part of our love.”

“The three virtues that we are talking about faith, love, and hope are all in the body (of Jesus Christ), in the Eucharist, which is the body of Christ in which we have faith and believe in it,” the CWA member further said.

The group plans to bring back home the teachings and experiences lived at the Eucharistic Congress for those who were unable to participate in person to continue the evangelization mission.

“The Eucharist is powerful, and we are taking that message of faith, hope, and love back to our people, the community, and the society at large,” Florence emphasized.

The National Eucharistic Congress is a culminating event of the members of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) three-year-long National Eucharistic Revival, an initiative that aims to renew Catholics’ faith that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, a central tenet of Catholicism.

In 2019, USCCB members decided to embark on the initiative following a Pew survey that found that only one-third of Catholics in the country believed that the consecrated bread and wine in the Holy Mass are the body and blood of Jesus.

The National Eucharistic Congress, airing on EWTN on TV and via livestream, is an opportunity for thousands of Catholics to recognize God’s love present in the Eucharist.

Tens of thousands of Catholics from across the U.S. are participating in the five-day spiritual initiative to encounter Jesus Christ in the Eucharist at the NFL’s Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, with more than 50,000 Catholics expected to participate in person.

More in Africa

Bishop Andrew Harmon Cozzens of Crookston Diocese in Minnesota, who led U.S. bishops’ initiative of Eucharistic Revival, called the congress “a moment of unity” for the Church in the United States of America.

Large crowds created long lines on the first day of the National Eucharistic Congress. More than 54,000 people had bought tickets for the congress as of July 17, according to the organizers.

All 50 States and 17 countries are represented among the congress participants, which include more than 1,000 Catholic Priests and 200 Catholic Bishops and Cardinals.
