The Biblical Youth Coordinator for the Catholic Diocese of Viana has described the inaugural Bible Day in Angolan Episcopal See as an opportunity to address the concerns and misconceptions faced by young Catholics on the Bible.

Held under the theme “Religion and Today’s Youth,” the Monday, September 16 event was aimed at addressing the spiritual concerns of young Catholics while promoting unity among youth from different parishes and pastoral centers of country.

Through open dialogue and faith-based discussions, the event sought to dispel misconceptions and strengthen the participants’ understanding of their Catholic faith.

Speaking to journalists at the end of the event, Humbertina Catombo explained the reason behind this inaugural Bible Day, stating that it arose from a desire to create a sense of community among the diocese’s youth, who he said “often find themselves isolated in their faith.”

“Young people have the habit of being alone. There was a need to have this journey because we wanted to unite the youth,” the Bible youth coordinator said.

Catombo noted that one of the key topics of discussion was the veneration of religious images, a subject that often leads to confusion among young people.

“The youth, when they enter the Church or interact with others from different religions, often question the role of religious images in Catholicism,” she said, adding that the Bible Day provided an opportunity to clarify such misconceptions. “This is not about loving the image; it is about understanding the proper context and significance of religious symbols,” she said.

Catombo further said, “This Bible Day was a moment for us to clear many doubts and address the concerns of the youth.”

She said the success of the first Bible Day has inspired hopes that it will become a regular event in the Diocese, “contributing to the ongoing spiritual growth and unity of young Catholics in Viana.”

Throughout the day, young participants engaged in lectures, discussions, and spiritual exercises designed to deepen their understanding of their faith.
