Let’s Join AA Kenya to Honor Lives Lost in Road Accidents in Sunday “special prayer”: Catholic Archbishop of Nairobi

Archbishop Philip Anyolo Subira of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi (ADN) has called upon the people of God under his pastoral care to join the Automobile Association of Kenya, (AA Kenya), Kenya’s pioneer driving school and provider of mobility solutions in the Eastern Africa region, in honouring the thousands of lives lost through road accidents in the country in a Sunday, September 22 “special prayer”.

In a message to Catholic Priests ministering in ADN, Archbishop Anyolo makes reference to a letter from AA Kenya leadership and asks that the “special prayer” titled “Road Accidents prayer” be included in the prayers of the faithful.

In the AA Kenya letter, the Managing Director shares statistics of accidents in the East African nation as of August 2024.

“Each year, millions of people are affected by road accidents, resulting in pain, grief, and irreparable loss. Sadly, this year the numbers continue to rise, with 7,274 reported accidents and 2,939 fatalities as of last month,” Francis Theuri says in the letter dated September 11.

Mr. Theuri highlights AA Kenya’s important role in the transport sector, and adds, “we recognize the devastating impact road accidents have on individuals, families, and communities.”

“In an effort to raise awareness and honour the lives lost, the dreams unfulfilled, and the families forever changed by road accidents, we humbly request your support in offering a special prayer (attached) during your service on the 22nd of September,” the Managing Director says in the letter addressed to the Local Ordinary of ADN.

He continues, “As part of your service, we invite you to join the rest of the nation in praying for safer roads and fewer accidents.”

“Together we can advocate for change and work towards reducing the number of lives lost on our roads,” Mr. Theuri further says in his letter in which he describes AA Kenya as “the leading mobility solutions provider in the region and the first driving school in Kenya.”

The entity he oversees, he says, “is deeply committed to championing road safety”.

Road Accidents prayer: 22 September,2024

Heavenly Father,

We come before you with heavy hearts, lifting up the souls of those who have tragically lost their lives in road accidents. We ask that you welcome them into your eternal embrace, granting them peace and rest in your loving presence. Comfort their families and friends who mourn their loss, and surround them with your grace and strength.

Lord, we also pray for wisdom and guidance for all stakeholders involved in road safety. Grant us the insight and determination to implement effective measures that will protect all road users. Help us to prioritize safety, make wise decisions, and work collaboratively to reduce accidents and save lives.

May your divine protection be upon all who travel, and may your wisdom guide those responsible for ensuring our roads are safe including policymakers, implementers, drivers, riders, and pedestrians.
