The Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi (ADN) in Kenya has dismissed as “entirely false” and unfounded claims in social media posts that John Cardinal Njue had died.
“It has come to our attention that persistent rumors are circulating regarding the alleged death of His Eminence John Cardinal Njue,” the Kenyan Archdiocese says in a Friday, September 27 statement that Bishop Wallace Ng’ang’a Gachihi, one of the three Auxiliary Bishops of ADN who was recently appointed Military Ordinary, signed.
“We wish to categorically state that these claims are entirely false and without foundation,” ADN further says, and adds, “His Eminence John Cardinal Njue is alive, and we ask that everyone disregards these baseless rumors.”
The Catholic Archdiocese urges all to “refrain from sharing or entertaining unverified information, particularly on sensitive matters such as this. Should there be any official communication regarding His Eminence's health or any other matter, it will be conveyed through official Church channels.”
“We ask that you continue to keep Cardinal Njue in your prayers, and we wish him continued good health and blessings,” ADN appeals for the Catholic Archbishop emeritus of the Kenyan Archdiocese, who retired in January 2021 at the age 75.
