Pope Francis has appointed Mons. Rubén Darío Ruiz Mainardi, a native of Argentina, as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Benin and Togo, assigning him the Titular See of Ursona with the dignity of Archbishop.
The appointment of Mons. Mainardi, who has been serving as a Nunciature Counsellor was announced Monday, October 28, and published by the Holy See Press Office.
The Cotonou-based Apostolic Nunciature has been vacant since July 9, when the Holy Father transferred Archbishop Mark Gerard Miles to the Vatican Diplomatic Mission of Costa Rica.
Born in Córdoba, Argentina, in November 1964, the Archbishop-elect was incardinated in the Diocese of Santo Tomé and ordained a Priest in May 1991.
The holder of a licentiate in Dogmatic Theology and a Doctorate in Canon Law entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See in March 2000.
