The Director of the Centre of Formation of Catechists of Burkina Faso's Catholic Diocese of Kaya has praised Catechists in the Burkinabe Episcopal See for their dedication in serving the community despite the increasing challenges of Christian persecution in the West African nation.
In a Wednesday, December 11 report, Fr. Edgard Ouedraogo tells the Catholic charity foundation, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) International, that Catechists in Burkina Faso are the “heroes of the Church" and that it is they, who are “most exposed” as pastoral agents.
“Among pastoral workers, it is the Catechists who are the most exposed and who are paying the heaviest price in the terrorist war,” Fr. Ouedraogo is quoted as saying.
He adds, in reference to Catechists serving in Kaya Diocese, “There have been more martyrs among them than among Priests.”
Director of the Centre of Formation of Catechists of Kaya Diocese notes that during their four-year formation, Catechists are given a crucifix to symbolize the reality of their life.
