Members of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) have lauded the country’s National Elections Security Task Force (NESTF) for demonstrating professionalism during the 2024 electioneering period in the country.
“As a nation committed to democratic values and the peaceful exercise of political rights, the importance of ensuring the security of citizens, electoral officials, and the integrity of the electoral process cannot be overstated,” GCBC members say in their December 19 statement.
They acknowledge with appreciation “the NESTF's dedication and professional handling of security measures throughout this election period” adding that the commitment and professionalism of the agents of the task force “has been invaluable in maintaining peace and stability across the country.”
“Your efforts in mitigating threats, maintaining order at polling stations, and ensuring the safety of voters and officials have significantly contributed to the credibility of the process,” the Catholic Church leaders say in the one-page statement that their president, Bishop Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi of Ghana’s Sunyani Catholic Diocese, signed.
"With your diligence, our democracy will thrive, and Ghana will remain a model of peaceful electoral processes in the region," they say.
