“May the year 2025 be for the Nigerien people, in all their diversity, a year of commitment in favor of peace, the gas of development of our country,” he further implores.
Archbishop Lompo goes on to reflect on the message of the Holy Father for the 2025 World Day of Peace released on 12 December 2024 titled, “Forgive us our trespasses: grant us your peace”.
He highlights Pope Francis’ criticism of “the richest countries” over their tendency to exploit the less developed countries, saying, “For the Pope, the external debt has become an instrument of control by which certain governments and private financial institutions of the richest countries do not hesitate to exploit without discernment the human and natural resources of the poorest countries in order to satisfy the needs of their own markets.”
“The situations of injustice and inequality to which the poorest countries are confronted are sources of conflicts that generate wars and ultimately compromise the peace of our days,” the Local Ordinary of Niamey, who started his Episcopal Ministry in June 2013 as Auxiliary Bishop of the same Metropolitan See says.
He advocates for fraternity, justice, and compassion towards the less fortunate. “We are invited to be more fraternal, more just, more attentive to the poor at a time when our country is fighting for its national sovereignty,” the Nigerien Archbishop appeals in his New Year Message.
Archbishop Lompo implores, “May the Almighty and Merciful God descend abundantly on you, on your families and on all Nigerian society the gift of peace throughout the new year 2025. Happy and blessed New Year to all.”
