Pope Francis has appointed the Rector of Our Lady of Hope Major Seminary Bertoua in Cameroon as Bishop for the Catholic Diocese of Yokadouma in the Central African nation.
The Episcopal appointment of Mons. Justin Georges Ebengue as Local Ordinary of the Episcopal See that has been vacant since November 2021 following the transferred of Bishop Paul Lontsié-Keuné to Cameroon’s Bafoussam Catholic Diocese was made public Saturday, January 11 by the Holy See Press Office.
Born in May 1970, Mons. Ebengue was ordained a Priest for the Catholic Diocese of Batouri in Cameroon in February 2006.
The holder of a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Catholic University of Central Africa (UCAC) in Yaoundé has previously served in various positions, including Parish Vicar, Parish Priest, and Rector of the St. John the Baptist Minor Seminary of the Catholic Diocese of Doumé-Abong’ Mbang.
The Cameroonian Bishop-elect also served as Chancellor of the Diocese of Doumé-Abong’ Mbang, head of Diocesan Pastoral Care and Catechesis, Diocesan Administrator of Batouri, and Rector of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral of Batouri Diocese.
