Apostolic Nuncio in Ivory Coast Challenges Newly Ordained Priest, Deacons to be Instruments of Reconciliation

The representative of the Holy Father in Ivory Coast has called on a Deacon he ordained a Priest and three Seminaries he ordained Deacons to be instruments of peace and reconciliation in the Church.

In his homily during the February 3 Diaconate and Priestly Ordinations at the Our Lady of Peace Basilica in the Catholic Diocese of Yamoussoukro, Archbishop Mauricio Rueda Beltz emphasized that the vocation of those he ordained is both a privilege and a responsibility to bring healing and hope to the faithful.

“Be instruments of peace and reconciliation in the Church,” Archbishop Rueda Beltz said during the Eucharistic celebration.

He added,  “Your life must be a living testimony of the Word of God, a word of life that leads to eternal life.”

“It is a joy to live in faith, a joy to honor God through service to the Church,” the Apostolic Nuncio said.

Reflecting on the example of Abraham, Archbishop Rueda Beltz highlighted the essence of vocation as an act of trust in God.

“Faith is a response of trust. That is what vocation is: trusting in God who calls, even without knowing where He leads,” he said.

The Colombian-born Vatican diplomat compared the Church’s mission to a boat sailing through the storms of life, reminding the Priest-elect and Deacons-elect that Jesus remains in control, even in moments of uncertainty.

“When the storm rises, Jesus may seem to sleep at the back of the boat, but He is the one holding the helm,” he reassured them.

Archbishop Rueda Beltz encouraged the future priests and deacons to nurture their vocation through constant prayer, both personal and communal.

“Prayer nourishes daily life; it is the source of all strength for the service of God and His people,” he said.
